{Edit: this rumor was fabricated by theonering.net as an “April Fool’s joke” and has been debunked by Townsend. Usually April Fool’s jokes have a bit of the absurd to them, so this one was head-scratching at best.] It seems that Stuart Townsend, once cast as Aragorn in The Lord of the Rings trilogy before Viggo Mortensen, may get his time in Middle-earth after all.
And we finally have confirmation on the rumor that Saiorse Ronan also joins the cast in the role of Itaril, a Silvan elf. Ronan and Townsend join a large cast including Martin Freeman as Bilbo, Ian McKellen, Cate Blanchett, Andy Serkis, Elijah Wood, Richard Armitage, Ken Stott, Graham McTavish, William Kircher, James Nesbitt, Stephen Hunter, Rob Kazinsky, Aidan Turner, Peter Hambleton, John Callen, Jed Brophy, Mark Hadlow and Adam Brown.
The two films are planned for release in late 2012 and 2013, respectively.
