The Twilight saga isn’t the only story to come from Stephenie Meyer. Her 2008 sci-fi novel, The Host, will soon be adapted for the big screen with a script by Andew Niccol (Gattaca, The Truman Show). Apparently it took a lot of convincing to get Meyer to sell the rights to the project and she has been very hands-on in the process. Though no director is attached, Niccol is a likely candidate since finishing as director of Now starring Justin Timberlake, Cillian Murphy and Amanda Seyfried.
To their credit, they snagged the very in demand Saoirse Ronan to play Melanie Strider who is captured by aliens and implanted by a Soul called Wanderer. Wanderer finds her challenging to control and becomes involved in her life.
Ronan is rumored to be playing both Melanie and Wanderer in a dual role. Ronan has a solid track record with an Oscar-nomination for Atonement and then starring in The Lovely Bones and Hanna and has a role in the highly anticipated The Hobbit films. It seems like every casting call we hear about has her name on the list.
The film is likely to be a hot ticket when Inferno launches sales at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival where Meyer and producer Nick Wechsler will attend to present the project to buyers with the Inferno team.
