Richard Ayoade is best known for playing Maurice Moss alongside Chris O’Dowd and Katherine Parkinson in the British television show The IT Crowd. But currently he is promoting the film Submarine, a coming-of-age drama based on the novel of the same name by Joe Dunthorne.
The film is set in Wales where Oliver Tate (Craig Roberts) believes he is a cool literary genius but is in fact socially inept and unpopular. To deal with his dysfunctional parents and homelife, he embarks on a misguided campaign to bring the family back together. Ayoade directs the film in his directorial debut.
The film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2010 and was then picked up by The Weinstein Company for a U.S. release.
Submarine hits theaters in the U.S. on June 3.
