Alyssa Milano stars as Jesse Young in this charming rom-com featuring a woman in search of her perfect man and finding the road rocky along the way. The plot follows her two relationships and eventual “will she, won’t she” conflict. Sounds pretty typical of this genre, but Utah filmmaker Daryn Tufts adds a neat twist.
Ethan (Christopher Goram) and Troy (Michael Landes) are the two suitors of the dual story that causes Jesse to fall in love and screw it up. All three leads are charismatic, especially Milano who is strangely believable as a sweet and wholesome divorcee. You are meant to form your own opinions on what is best for her and who really is Mr. Right as neither is necessarily wrong. The story meanders in the middle with the usual courtship scenes. You think you know who these characters are and what makes them tick, but thankfully the end injects enough spice to make it very palatable. Tom Lenk of Buffy the Vampire Slayer fame adds some fangirl love as Jesse’s quirky but kind brother.
Very small distribution and limited critical review make this one easy to miss but worth a watch for the charm and twist on a classic genre.
