Netflix and changes at Movie Gnome

Hey chickadees:
You may have noticed that I’m a little low on posts these days. I’m finding that the news business is pretty fast-paced and a little much for one lil person to handle on a part-time basis. So while I still plan on covering news in the niches that I know are awesome (indies, geek genres, etc.), I’ll be moving most of my content over to less-frequent, but more meaty commentary and reviews.

In other news, if you’re a Netflix subscriber, you may have noticed an email from the CEO in your inbox late last night. It contained the news that they are trying to address concerns over splitting the DVD and streaming business. They claim they need to address marketing differently and apparently branding (incoming “Quikster”), for these two distinct audiences. Now, I’ve always been of the camp that supports Netflix and was pretty much okay with the price increase. I wasn’t taking advantage of the mail-in service anyway and now I’m paying less for what I was already using. But I’m sure there is a large chunk of the audience that used both and went all Hulk on them. So for those consumers, here is an Oatmeal cartoon that probably sums up how they feel.
