One of the most highly anticipated castings in the upcoming adaptation of The Hunger Games was the role of Katniss’ stylist, Cinna. We knew he had to be mild-mannered, not as showy as the rest of The Capitol representatives and very kind. Lionsgate has just announced via Facebook that musician Lenny Kravitz will be taking on the role.
Said director Gary Ross of the casting decision, “When I saw Lenny’s work in Precious I was just knocked out. It was quiet and strong and understated and open hearted; all qualities which define this character. I’m really looking forward to this ride.”
Kravitz actually has very limited acting experience, his only major role being the part in Precious. He has two other roles in pre-production for 2012, however, including Selma and The Blind Bastard Club. He does bring a familiar face to the cast.
The Hunger Games hits theaters on March 23, 2012.

UPDATE: Deadline just broke the news that Toby Jones (Infamous, Your Highness) will be joining the cast as well. According to the article he’ll be playing “playing the host/narrator of the games alongside Stanley Tucci.” They announced on Facebook that he’ll be playing Claudius Templesmith, the announcer the competitors hear when the rules are changed in the arena.
WOW! I always pictured Cinna as fair, fey, and semi-gay. This is a sneaky surprise. Innnnnteresting.
