Jerry Stahl to direct The Thin Man starring Johnny Depp

Jerry Stahl to write The Thin ManJerry Stahl (Permanent Midnight) has been hired to write the screenplay for the remake of the detective movie, The Thin Man.

The Thin Man originally starred William Powell and Myrna Loy as the crime-solving married couple, Nick and Nora Charles in the 1930s and 40s. The “thin man” himself was the man Charles was originally hired to find, but it became synonymous with Charles himself in later movies within the six film series. The films are based on the novel of the same name by Dashiell Hammett.

Johnny Depp and Rob Marshall have been linked to the project for some time and Stahl is the most recent addition. Apparently producers want him to keep the script within the original period as well. Stahl is also linked to HBO‘s Hemingway & Gellhorn starring Nicole Kidman and Clive Owen.
