Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby has a lot of big names so far. Leonardo DiCaprio stars as Jay Gatsby alongside Carey Mulligan, Tobey Maguire, Joel Edgerton, and Isla Fisher.
The role of Myrtle’s (Fisher) husband has now been filled by Jason Clarke (The Wettest County in the World). He looks like a perfect fit: character actor, blends into roles well, and looks like he could be a gas station attendant. I approve of this message. [THR]
The Marc Forster-directed adaptation of Max Brooks‘ novel World War Z has begun shooting (after much financial strife). Thank goodness. Now we’re hoping for news that they’ll consider an R rating. A girl can dream, okay?
Brad Pitt is still set to star as the UN researcher investigating the zombie encounters, alongside James Badge Gale as Captain Spake and Mirielle Enos as Pitt’s character’s wife. Some new faces are in talks including Matthew Fox, Ed Harris (aka John McCain), and Julia Levy-Boeken (Entourage). [Deadline]
Ellie Kemper plays a flaky chick on The Office and in Bridesmaids and it appealed to the producers of 21 Jump Street who were also casting a flaky chick. Or rather, “an annoyingly sincere chemistry teacher” who will be Channing Tatum’s love interest. Tatum stars alongside writer Jonah Hill (who co-wrote the film with Phil Lord and Chris Miller). [Variety]
Josh Stewart is joining the cast of The Dark Knight Rises in an unknown role (they’ve loved doing that in this film) . You might know Stewart from The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.
He joins Christian Bale (in his last run as the Batman), Michael Caine, Gary Oldman, Morgan Freeman, Tom Hardy, Anne Hathaway, Juno Temple, Josh Pence, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Marion Cotillard, Matthew Modine, Tom Conti, Joey King, Brett Cullen, Chris Ellis, Daniel Sunjata, Diego Klattenhoff and Burn Gorman. WHEW. If only they could get some big names up in here. Ahem. [Variety]
